How Home Health Agencies are rated
What goes into the CMS rating for home health agencies — and how to use it.
Quality of patient care rating
Home health agencies receive a quality-of-patient-care star rating, reported in half-star steps (for example 3.5★). It is based on measures such as how often the team started care in a timely way and how often patients improved at walking, getting in and out of bed, and managing medications.
How it's built
CMS combines several OASIS- and claims-based outcome measures into a single star rating, comparing each agency to others nationally.
How to use it
Check which services the agency offers (nursing, physical therapy, etc.) alongside the star rating, and confirm they cover your ZIP code.
